national pot, which accommodates all these people. The NDP firmly embraces the
belief that Egypt can be a house for all Egyptians in an atmosphere where all
different opinions serve national interests. The party is considered a natural
growth of the Egyptian patriotism trend, which led the way for national
independence since the early 20th century.
Centrality of the Egyptian national identity |
| The NDP knows for certain that the centrality of the Egyptian
national identity is the thing that nourished Egypt's integration since the
dawn of history. At the same time, the NDP takes Egypt's strong links with the
Arab and Muslim nations for granted.
The principle of citizenship |
| The NDP is committed to the principle of citizenship as the basis of
total equality among citizens in rights and duties without the least regard to
religion, beliefs, origin or sex. The party highlights the importance of the
national unity, which binds Egypt's Muslims and Copts together.
Religion and progress |
| The NDP knows for certain that heavenly religions can play a positive
role in pushing for progress. It pins its faith on Islam and Islamic
jurisprudence, which is the main source for legislation. It also believes in
the importance of renewing religious discourse in a way that emblazons the
importance of work, solidarity, tolerance, justice and comprehensive
development.

| The NDP's stances stem from a moderate attitude that expresses
positions of the average Egyptians. This is a positive moderation that highly
pins its faith on initiatives, participation, change and the renunciation of
radicalism. It is a position that adopts moderate attitudes in seeking social,
economic and political alterations in an atmosphere that protects the interests
of individuals and the interests of society as well.
Citizens' rights |
| The NDP spares no effort in securing full respect for all citizens'
rights, such as the right for a secure life, the right for freedom and the
right for equality before the law. It also does the same in relation to the
right for property, the right for work, the right for education, the right for
medical care and the right for privacy. The right for political participation,
the right for freedom of thinking and speech and all the other rights that find
their roots in heavenly religions, the constitution and international charters
which Egypt has signed are high on the party's agenda. The NDP is easy in its
mind about the importance of invigorating the institutions, which are endowed
with the responsibility of protecting these rights like the judiciary and
police.
Democracy |
| The NDP highlights the importance of continuing the drive toward
democracy through bumping up respect for the constitution, the supremacy of
law, public freedoms and underlining the importance of transparency and
accountability and the freedom of the press. It also condones all forms of
participation and the preservation of the political rights of labourers and
farmers.

important. It leaves no stone unturned to give an edge these institutions in
development in an atmosphere where the state and society would partner while
social responsibility on the part of individuals and capital would be
strengthened.
State and society |
| The NDP banks on the role of the state as the patron of society and
the honest guardian of its values, potentialities and social security. It
believes that the job of the state is to make suitable the atmosphere for
development and strike a balance between the interests of society and the
interests of individuals using the arm of law. The role of the state is also to
assist low-income segments to attain their basic demands and give due care to
people with special needs. The NDP, at the same time, has an unwavering belief
in the importance of the continual modernisation of state institutions for them
to be able to carry out their development-related duties perfectly.
A society of equal opportunities |
| The NDP is easy in its mind about the importance of the presence of
equal opportunities in society. It uses its best endeavours to make available
these equal opportunities for all citizens who would use these opportunities
each according to his/her readiness and individual skills.
Family and development |
| The NDP believes in the importance of the family as the core of
society and the centre of comprehensive development. The party does its utmost
to enable families to carry out their duties of upbringing, sowing the seeds of
positive values into youngsters and effectively taking part in family planning
efforts in a way that makes a balance between the size of the family, its needs
and its resources.
The role of women |
| The NDP pins its faith on the role of women of who constitute half of
society. It does its utmost to step up their contributions in public life

Youth and the future |
| Egypt's youth, which represent a majority of the population, are top
in the priorities of the NDP, which considers them the promising future of
development and progress. The party tries its best to make ring in
opportunities for the participation of youth in all development aspects giving
them the chance to be on the saddle in various aspects in national work.
Justice and development |
| The NDP banks on the role of the state in achieving social justice to
ensure that revenues are distributed justly. It also believes in the role the
state can play in realising the goals of a sustainable development that
conserves the environment and preserves the rights of posterity.
Development culture |
| The NDP is easy in its mind about the importance of augmenting a
development culture by spreading values that herald an expression of citizens'
energies; values that open the door for innovation and scientific research. The
values the NDP seeks to spread are ones that encourage individual initiatives,
teamwork and responsibility in a way that trims poverty, ignorance and boosts
progress.
Human wealth |
| The NDP knows for certain that Egypt's real wealth is inherent in its
people. That is why it seeks to develop this wealth through effective
investment in it through education and training. It also does its utmost to
give special care to scientists and innovative people rewarding well-doers in a
way that suits their skills. However, the party refers to the need to adjust
population growth in a way that allows for developing Egypt's human wealth
benefiting from the benefits of development.
Market economy |
| The NDP is of the view that market economy, offer and demand
mechanisms and free competition are the ways to an effective use of national
resources. It also believes that the state plays an important role in fairly
distributing these resources side by side activating effective-use- mechanisms
of these resources under an effective supervision by independent and credible
institutions.
Investment and production |
| The NDP highly estimates the role the private sector plays in
economic development in an atmosphere of stability and transparency. The party
strongly backs private sector investment taking this as a strategic policy. At
the same time it lobbies for adopting the kind of policies that improve the
performance of the public sector to preserve the money invested into it. It
also calls for subjecting this public sector to supervision, competition and
accountability in the fields where the state must continue as a main player. It
is advisable that other state assets be let into private hands for a broadening
of the property-owning base without violating workers' rights. |
| Public services |
| Highly estimating the social responsibilities of the state the NDP is
of the view that there must be a strong commitment on the part of the state to
offer public services to improve the living conditions particularly of
vulnerable citizens. It thinks the best way for doing this is good management
of the economy in the presence of state supervision to improve services
regardless of whether they are presented by the public sector or the private
sector.
National interests and interaction with the world |
| The NDP believes in the importance of positive interaction with the
world, global and regional changes. It also pins its faith on the role Egypt
plays as a regional power that strives to best serve its national interests in
a framework of regional peace and stability through its bilateral relations and
its active membership in international forums. Accordingly the NDP banks on
support for the armed forces to augment its ability to deter any potential
threats to Egypt's national security.
International competition |
| The NDP is of the view that good relations with other countries are
prerequisites for realising the development rates the Egyptian society aspire
to. It thinks that openness to these countries makes it necessary to gradually
liberalise trade, push the Egyptian production sector into international
competition and attract investments. These steps taken, desired development
goals would be achieved.
Merger into the international economy |
| The NDP thinks that Egypt has an important economic role to play on
the world scene. Egypt must also play an effective economic role through a
number of economic groupings in a way that best serves its national interests.
The NDP knows for certain that the challenges the necessity for becoming part
of the international economy poses makes it unavoidable for Egypt to sharpen
the competitive edge of its national production institutions for them to
increase Egypt's share of international trade. Equally important is the need
for making the best use of advantages like Egypt's geographic location, human
resources and inherent economic potentialities.
The Arab world |
| Fully believing in the importance of the links that tie Egypt with
the rest of the Arab world and the leading role Egypt plays in the Arab area,
the NDP does its best to bolster these links by cementing bilateral relations
with the Arab countries. It also uses its best endeavours to invigorate the
Arab League and its specialised agencies. At the same time, the NDP tries to
activate the Arab Free Trade Agreement in a bid to make economic integration
among the Arab countries a reality. |
Middle East peace |
| The NDP believes that a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle
East must be founded on equality and mutual benefit away from hegemonic
ideologies and the desire to occupy others' lands. It presumes that a peace
like that is the only route for coexistence among the peoples of the Middle
East region. This peace would be enlivened by freeing the Middle East from
weapons of mass destruction. The party accentuates that the Egypt-Israel peace
principles, which were adopted in the Madrid conference in 1991, taking land
for peace as a basic formula, are still the basis for a just and comprehensive
peace. They are the only guarantee for normal relations between Israel and the
Arab countries heralding the establishment of an independent and sovereign
Palestinian state and an Israeli pullout from all the Arab lands it occupied
since 1967.
The Muslim world |
| The NDP highlights the close relations between Egypt and the other
Muslim countries and the cultural role of Islam in human progress. The party

away from radicalism and extremism.
